May-12 Spring Market - Mother’s Day Pre-Season Sale
The Spring Market is our first event of 2012 as well as the first event in our new home: 6210 Dempster St. We welcome back many of our favorite vendors from last year and are eager to get to know the new additions to our Farmers’ Market family! The Spring Market will feature many gift items, just in time for Mother’s Day. Our farmers will bring early spring produce, fresh cut flowers and bedding plants. We will have plenty of prepared foods and drinks to enjoy at the market or bring home. For a complete list of Spring Market Vendors, please visit our blog. Please note that our Spring Market line up differs slightly from our Regular Season line up, since many vendors rely on seasonal produce to bring to our Market.
Our featured vendor of the week is Blankenship Farms. Students from Golf Middle School‘s chorus and band will provide musical entertainment from 9:30 – 10:30 am. Our Community Group of the week will be Shot @ Life. Shot @ Life would like to increase awareness about global health and child survival. The will provide information handouts, plegde cards, stickers, and white boards to write what you want to give kids a chance at in life. At our Spring Market Sponsor table will be Bath Fitter – Chicago North.

Niles-Morton Grove Patch Editor Pam DeFiglio posted her wonderful article and photos from the Spring Market in “Farmers Market Gives Spring Preview.”

Jun-2 First day of 2012 Regular Season

Join us for the Opening Day of the 2012 regular season!
- 8:00 am The Market will open at it’s regular time.
- 9:00 am Children are welcome to attend Story Time with Miss Laura at the Kiddie Corner.
- 9:30 am The Park View Elementary School Band will perform, leading up to the opening ceremony.
- 10:00 am The Morton Grove Boy Scouts will begin a flag ceremony procession along Dempster in front of the market site at 6210 Dempster. Once inside the Farmers’ Market, the flag ceremony will continue when Marilyn Metz, a Niles West Student, sings the national anthem. There will also be brief speeches made by local officials welcoming everyone to the third season of the Morton Grove Farmers’ Market. The Market Manager team, the Farmers’ Market committee members and volunteers, and local VIP’s will cut the ceremonial ribbon. The Park View Band will play as the shopping resumes.
- 11:00 am Classical guitarist and a vocal/acoustic performer Jonathan Weber will perform.
We are pleased to have more vendors than ever before to assist with all your shopping, dining, and gift giving needs! This year we offer three bakeries, providing delicious gluten free and traditional products. Our featured vendor of the week is Red Barn Farm and Market. Our Community Group of the week will be the Morton Grove Board of Environmental Health. They will have information about the environment, recycling, and the West Nile virus. At our Sponsor table will be Inland Bank.
Both Morton Grove Park District pools will open at 12 noon on Saturday, June 2nd. Harrer Pool is right next to the Market 6250 W. Dempster St, Morton Grove IL. Oriole Pool is located at 9200 Oriole Ave, Morton Grove IL.

Our featured vendor of the week is Buttercream by Julianna, featuring all gluten-free homemade baked goods. This week, Chef Theresa will bring lemon/blueberry bread, apricot crumb bread, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate chip cookie dough.
Tava Restaurant will offer lunch plates from 10 am – 12 noon. For just $5.00, you can get a plate of chicken makhani (mild butter chicken) and basmati rice.
Sweety Pies Bakery~Cakery~Cafe will be making fresh and delicious grilled cheese sandwiches to order. They will also offer croissants, scones, and more!
Steve Justman will perform on 6/9.
Our Community Group of the week will be the Niles Township Schools’ ELL Parent Center.
The ELL Parent Center has 3 main objectives: 1) Literacy – so that parents can effectively communicate 2) Access to Community Resources – so that parents can support raising healthy children 3) Parent Education – so that parents themselves can model life-long learning
Additional parking for the Market is located in the MB Financial Bank South lot, the American Legion Civic Center lot, the Morton Grove Historical Museum lot, the Harrer Pool / Park parking lots (both East and West of the Pool). Please use extra caution while traveling through the Market area.
June 16th is BEE DAY!
Come see bees in their hives and watch a honey extraction demonstration by Bee Keeper John Bailey!
Our featured vendor of the week is John Bailey Honey. John Bailey, the market’s own bee keeper, will bring his bees and a slice of their hive to view in an enclosed clear case. Shoppers can see and learn first hand how their honey is made. This safe demonstration will also have John extruding honey from the combs and answering questions from the audience. In addition to the honey extraction demonstration, check out his booth for fresh local honey, handmade beeswax candles, honeycombs, honey sticks, and Bee themed jewelry.
JoyNPure‘s Honey Nut Snacks are sweetened with honey, without any refined sugar or added salt. Many of LAZ Cosmetics products are made with the beeswax from John Bailey’s honey bees!
The Market will be open from 8:00 am – 12 noon with Bee Themed Story Time and Bee-autiful Bee Crafts at the Kiddie Corner starting at 9:00 am.

Wild Onion String Band will provide musical entertainment from 8:30 -11:30 am.
Our Community Groups of the week will be the MG Community Relations Commission and RESULTS. RESULTS representatives will bring fact sheets and brochures about US poverty relating to nutrition and hunger. They will also give people the opportunity to write letters to Congress on whatever topic they wish.
At our Sponsor table will be MB Financial Bank. Look for the Morton Grove Days booth to learn more about the July 4th parade, carnival, concerts, and more!

Jun-23 Summer Fun Fest / MG Park District Day
The Morton Grove Park District is sponsoring the Summer Fun Fest / MG Park District Day Festival. The Market opens at 8:00 am as usual, with Story Time and Park District Festivities beginning at 9:00 am. There will be NO Market next week, so be sure to stock up for your summer barbecues and picnics!

Jul-7 Bike to the Market Day!
Join us in being GREEN to pick up your greens! Bike to the Market on July 7th (and any other time you are able)! We will offer complimentary bike valet parking (gratuities not necessary) and bike themed stories, crafts, and activities at the Kiddie Corner. Cyclists receive an ice cold bottle of water, while supplies last.
This week, enter TWO free drawings at the Welcome Booth: our regular weekly drawing for a free bag full of Market goodies in a reusable shopping bag AND one of two certificates for a free Bicycle Helmet and fitting, courtesy of the Children’s Health Resource Center at Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital. Lutheran General will also provide information about bicycle helmet fittings and bicycle safety at the Welcome Booth and children’s activity booklets at the Kiddie Corner.

This Festival is sponsored by the Morton Grove Community Relations Commission. Starting at 9 am, a variety of organizations will be welcoming patrons to Morton Grove, showing off all the wonderful things our village has to offer.
AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization), Morton Grove Historical Museum Education Center, Morton Grove Baseball/Softball Association, Morton Grove Chamber of Commerce, Morton Grove Community Church, Morton Grove Community Relations Commission, Morton Grove Garden Club, Morton Grove Public Library, and Niles West Feeder Football are all expected to attend.

Featured Vendor of the Day: Benhart Farms
Dairy, coop and pasture food from southern Wisconsin including free-range eggs and whole roasting chickens. Beef-wise, owner Eric Benhart is selling t-bone, porterhouse, ribeye, NY strip, tenderloin, sirloin, stew meat, 1/3lb patties and ground beef. If you find the swine to be devine, check out his pork chops, cutlets, country ribs, spare ribs, nitrate-free bacon, smoked hocks, bratwurst (in regular, jalepeno and cheddar as well as mild Italian).

Come try the amazing tamales that are a hit at the Evanston Farmers’ Market… moles, chicken, pork, yummy sauces of all varieties, and amazing kinds you’ve never tried before unless you spent time in Mexico!
Come try Katy’s watermelon pickles and her apricot butter, among all the other great flavors of jams, jellies, chutneys, relishes and preserves she makes. Try merlot wine jelly or rosemary garlic jelly for something totally different with brie and crackers. My personal favorite: Strawberry Rhubarb Butter. My kids polish it off, leaving me lots of empty jars!

Music This Week
The Perltones are comprised of Bob Perlstein and his son, Liam, residents of Morton Grove. Bob has played banjo in various Chicago bluegrass bands since 1980 and formerly taught at the Old Town School of Folk Music. Liam, who started playing fiddle at age 7, was 2008 Indiana State Fair Junior Fiddle Champion and was the winner of the Old Town School Midwest Fiddle Championship Junior Division in 2006 and 2009! Bob and Liam regularly play at CJ Arthur’s Restaurant in Wilmette.
The Morton Grove Historical Museum will be open this Saturday morning, so stop by the Market and take a tour of this lovely part of local history. Visit the Museum Education Center and the Haupt-Yehl House, located just across the parking lot from the Market.

Local Scouting troops will commemorate 9/11 with a flag ceremony and other activities. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Campfire USA, and other scouting troops from Morton Grove and nearby suburbs are invited to participate.
Our featured vendor of the week is LAZ Cosmetics.
Jim Jacobs Quintet will provide musical entertainment. Ryan from RC Juggles & Company will join us with his creative balloons and entertaining show.
Our Community Group of the week will be the Morton Grove Community Church.
Volunteers from the Northwestern University Early Learning Lab and Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory will be helping out at the Kiddie Corner. Stop by for crafts and information about their research lab.
The Early Learning Lab is a research center dedicated to understanding and promoting early language and conceptual development. Our lab includes Dr. Amy Booth, PhD and a research team of graduate and undergraduate students focused on studying how infants and children think, learn and grow from birth to age 7. By examining both typical and atypical pathways of development in children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, we aim to maximize the potential of all children.
At our Sponsor table will be American Legion Morton Grove Post 134 - American Legion Auxiliary Morton Grove Unit 134.

Stop and chat with Chef Massimo, an instructor at Kendall College’s culinary school. Pick up some amazing spice blends that he personally creates. Autumn Spice is Market Manager Kristina’s favorite! Oct- 20 Halloween Costume Contest
Adults and children are invited to come to the Market in costume for hourly contests and prizes! This will be the last day of 2012 Regular Season.
Our featured vendor of the week is Albo Acres.
Our Community Group of the week will be UNICEF. UNICEF will hand out trick-or-treat for UNICEF boxes and stickers, as well as coloring pages. They will also have fact sheets about famine and child survival.
At our Sponsor table will be Bath Fitter – Chicago North.
December 2 MGFM Winter Market
The Morton Grove Farmers’ Market will be holding two Winter Market events on Saturday, December 1, 2012 and Saturday, February 2, 2013. (That’s the first Saturday in December and the first Saturday in February.) Customers can shop and dine between 9 am – 2 pm right next door to our regular season site, at the Morton Grove American Legion Civic Center (6140 Dempster St., Morton Grove, IL 60053).
These indoor markets will feature over two dozen vendors from our 2012 Regular Season, our 2011 Winter Market, and even a few new to our Market. Due to the overwhelming popularity of our Winter Market last year, we have rented additional space for our valued customers. The Morton Grove Farmers’ Market will provide an upstairs Market Café featuring live music, prepared foods and a place to eat and relax. We will also offer an upstairs Kiddie Corner for children’s crafts and family entertainment. The downstairs area will offer vendors with baked goods, food and non-food gift items, and much more!
Bath Fitter Chicago North is our main Winter Market Sponsor.
DECEMBER 1, 2012: Chicago Parent is sponsoring the December Kiddie Corner and family entertainment, balloon artist RC Juggles. Live music by Jon Weber, the Perlstein Fiddlers, and Bee at the Market Cafe throughout the Winter Market.
FEBRUARY 2, 2013: MyGym Skokie is sponsoring the February Kiddie Corner and family entertainment, magician Andrew Michals. Live music at the Market Cafe, performers to be announced.

If you would like to contribute to the Firefighter’s Association of Morton Grove‘s annual Holiday Food Drive, please bring a non-perishable food item to the December Winter Market. Food will be distributed to area residents in need this holiday season. Cash donations will be accepted at the Morton Grove Fire Department.
